After visiting Yosemite we continued our road trip through the western USA – but the hard winter caused us to change our route and we did drive through the High Sierras to the Mono Lake to see the famous Tufa Towers.
The Tufa towers of Mono lake are a fantastic site where these bizarre formations can be explored by walking through them. If you pass by Mono lake don’t miss them.
Tonopah Historic Mining Park
Not too far away is the Tonopah Historic Mining Park which shows how silver mining worked in the real mine it happened. Plenty of houses and original equipment is on exhibit and well worth a stop. To be honest this was more of detour, as we did run low on gas and where searching for a gas station – in the desert 🙍🏻♂️ 🏜️ So be sure to fill up almost at every gas station you find – but in the end we where not alone in the quest, Tonopah has 7 gas stations 😆
Here is a video of the mining park – in 360 and normal to get an impression.
Benton hot springs
We also visited the Benton Hot Springs Campground with Hot Tub – Yes, you read right … if you travel through the High Sierras you should visit Benton Hot Springs. A super small town with old west feeling and a campground where every campsite has it’s own hot tub – super cool 😃
